Levaquin

Levaquin belongs to the class of medicines called Quinolones. These drugs are generally taken when a person suffers from infections generated by bacteria. However, there were several reports and complaints against the medication that many users are experiencing tendinitis and tendon raptures. The frequency of the complaints got higher, which made FDA to take action by placing a warning in a “black box” on the pack of the medicine that creates awareness about the association of the drug with tendon raptures and tendinitis. Creating awareness about the possible side effects of using Levaquin is a good decision by FDA considering the interest of the buyers.

A consumer protection group called Public Citizen filed a petition against the FDA in 2006. In the petition, they had requested the FDA to issue strong warnings on the Levaquin medicine packs that will indicate the side effects of tendon raptures and tendinitis. The group followed the Administrative Procedure Act to file a federal lawsuit so that FDA implies in the petition that they have issued. This move has proven to be effective and the warning as implemented on the packs of the medicine.
